Often associated with old age or dementure, a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal device which allows people you trust to make decisions for you that you would have made for yourself if you are unable to do so because of ill health, including incapacity, stroke, or accident. Its not about being old, its about being incapable of making those decisions for whatever reason.
Just like making a Will making an LPA is about planning for the future but it (they) must be made whilst you have mental capacity. Once you lose mental capacity you cannot appoint anyone to act for you. Your representatives must then apply to the Court of Protection for permission to handle the simplest of your affairs, and like any court, the process can take a long time and be very costly.
Let us help you to complete the documents you will need to make sure the people you trust are able to make those vital decisions for you.
We can visit you at home at a time convenient for you and guide you through the process.
